  1. May I suggest this book.

Buddha’s Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love, and Wisdom [Paperback]
Rick Hanson (Author), Richard Mendius (Collaborator)

It explains how our brain operates, how we construct our ego from past memories woven together into a story, us. Understanding that this ego is the culprit of identity causing all the trouble helps out.

We can reprogram of ego to resemble a true positive self. Changing self talk, not ever uttering a negative word about us. The cognitive part of the brain is like a computer. We do unlimited damage by entertaining negative or worthless thoughts or worry. Affirmations said out loud also engages the pre frontal cortex reinforcing our being perfect worthy in our inner world.

Sit quietly with yourself and follow the breath without thought for a while everyday. I have made a model in my head of a breathing track, that is soothing to the mind and body. Here is a post.
